First you will need to pick
yourself some nettles, you
can find these everywhere,
but don't pick them from
the side of the roads because
of car fumes also don't worry
about getting stung by the
nettles, most people think that if you touch a nettle you
will get stung but you wont, nettles only sting if they quickly
brush across your skin but if you get hold of them gently they
wont sting you, you can also pick a leaf off and eat it without
your mouth getting stung as long as you chew it slowly. I
always eat the leaves and have only had my mouth stung
once, i also wash the nettles in the bath with my bare hands
and only get stung a couple of times.
Ingredients
2-3 carrier bags of Freshly picked nettle tips (before they flowers)
Butter
1 chopped onion (optional)
2-3 slices of chopped Bacon (optional)
Water
1-2 potato's (cut into pieces)
Sour cream (creme fraiche)
Salt and pepper
Directions
First wash the leaves, you can put gloves on for this if you
want but like i said you wont get stung if you are careful,
then take the leaves off the stalks (you can leave them on
the stalks if you want but i always take them off)
Fry the onion and bacon in a bit of butter for a few minutes
then stir in the nettles and continue to fry until they soften,
if it gets a bit dry add a bit of water to stop it from burning.
Add the potatoes and about 1 and a half pints of water, stir
and let cook until the potatoes are soft.
Add salt and pepper to taste
Use a blender and blend it all together, add some sour cream
and give it a stir.
